Mandisa's song Overcomer keeps popping in my head, especially the following words.
Everybody's been down
Hit the bottom, hit the ground
Oh, you're not alone
Just take a breath, don't forget
Hang on to His promises
He wants You to know
You're an overcomer
The same Man, the Great I am
The one who overcame death
Is living inside of You
So just hold tight, fix your eyes
On the one who holds your life
There's nothing He can't do
He's telling You
You're an overcomer.
It gives me such a peace filled spirit to know that I am an overcomer. How awesome is it that we don't have to stay where we were or who we have been?? We can all be overcomers through Christ and the grace and mercy that he offers us freely.
He doesn't want us carrying the heavy loads of our sin and past regrets. He wants us to give those burdens to him and be free. Jesus loves us so much that he carried our load for us and doesn't want us to suffer as he did, we just have to hand it over. It says in Ephesians 1:7 "In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace".
Once we lay our sin at God's feet and ask for forgiveness, he takes it from us and it is gone. I saw this quote the other day and it really hit home for me. "If you haven’t left your burden with the Lord after you have prayed, all you have done is griped." (Robert Morris) Do you keep the things that you have asked God to relieve you of? I know that I am guilty of that sometimes.
I pray that we will be the overcomers that God wants us to be and are no longer burdened by our heavy loads. I will close with this verse that I feel sums it up perfectly. Revelation 3:21 "To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne".
